For those of us who care about politics... too much.
I have many friends who consider themselves spiritual who are now supporting socialism and socialist candidates. Until just recently, socialism was anathema and totally unacceptable. Has something changed? Some no longer consider me to be a friend, even though my views haven’t changed.
Enlightenment VS SocialismThis discussion is coming from the point of view of one on the path toward total enlightenment. So, the question becomes, is socialism enlightened? After all, it promises to treat everyone the same with no special interest groups as well as justice for all.
Justice? My friends talk about economic and social justice and how its unfair for some people to be rich and live in mansions while others are homeless and starving. If one takes from the rich and gives to the poor, isn’t that what Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed talked about Some think that socialism will mean better treatment for those who are different from us ethnically, economically, sexually or any other...
Are we "One with All Things" or are we billions of unique individuals? How do you herd cats? Or are we sheep? Politics is about the rules people use to run a government, be it a city, state, or country. It is an art, some say a science; it depends on whom you talk to and the assumptions they make on who we are… and who they are.
What We think We Are Colors Our PerceptionThe answer to who we are is all over the map of possibilities. Some are spiritual, some practical, but some are seen through the lens of baser individual needs, like greed for money, sex, or power. For others, it appears to be tribal, based on who our “team” is, or the projected personality of the person running for office. Decisions are based on perceptions of the dukes mixture of all these factors.
Fighting For The GoodSeldom do we see purists in politics and seldom do they remain pure. Policies of government affect large groups and individuals. All of them fight for what they perce
Is this Blog a Good Thing?I am not sure I want to do this blog. It may not be wise or consistent with my spiritual principles!
Enlightement is RealityEnlightenment is not so much of an experiences as it is about what we do. Many spiritually advanced people have said so explicitly. It is not a special feeling, but more a remembrance that if Heaven is real and eternal, it is here and now as well as the physical; "it is at hand." There is an element of choice in which world we focus on. Focussing on the physical world and engaging in politics can lead to hating, fighting and attacking those peope who do not agree with us. It can result in a major backslide, making Heaven almost impossible to perceive.
Seeking Perfection on Our Own TermsOn the other hand, we chose, on some level, to be born into this world and now we have to make decisions on a day to day basis. It is obvious that the world we live in is not Heaven and many would like to make it into their own version...
Since this is the "Enlightened Politiholic," lets visit about what Enlightenment means.
Enlightenment is Not SpecialIt is not a snobby, guru thing and is the furthest thing from it. People who are enlightened are not special in the worldly way of thinking about it. People who are not enlightened are merely asleep. They are dreaming a fantasy world of separation from our Source. We all wake up, sooner or later. It is no big deal.
Enlightenment is a Realization, a DoingEnlightenment is many things. It is the subject of many memes. It is not an end or accomplishment, it is what you do. Since enlightenment is remembering that we are all One and there is nothing separate from the Source of Life, what we DO is key. There really is no "other." It's all us. That's it. What we do about this realization and still get along in this separate world is what this conversation is all about. There are many ways to do this and as long as we are treating others with love a
This is a classic Ego tactic – two sides blaming each other for the lack of agreement on a major issue, like what kind of country this should be. There is no such thing as being completely correct and the other side completely wrong – we won’t play that game here. There are always two sides to every story in Ego’s World.
Does That Make You Happy? Both sides believe they are doing the “right thing.” They both want to be right. However, as A Course in Miracles famously said, “Do you prefer to be right or happy?" Correctness is debatable and right now, nobody seems to be happy. One side wants border walls, the other refuses to fund it. The shutdown is the last straw to get it done before two predictable years of gridlock. The shutdown over building a Wall just might be a leading issue in the next election cycle starting now – on both sides. The Wall issue is not going away.
Walls Define Countries, Yards, RoomsIn this world, borders go
Is Politics the Most Important Thing in Your Life? Many of our brothers and sister care too much about American Politics, including me sometimes.
Do You Hate the President or any Politician?I have come to the view that when I hate any brother or sister, I am the only one who feels bad about it. It doesn’t change anything. In fact, it usually gets in the way of my spiritual growth. There has got to be a way to be spiritually aware and warm-hearted to ALL my brothers and sisters, including ALL politicians.
Can People With Opposing Viewpoints Get Along? There are many friends who espouse opposing viewpoints and in many cases, intensely dislike those who do not agree with them. This blog will observe these opinions and find the good in them, be they socialist or conservative, Christian or atheist, traditional or new thought. I have lost friends when they see the bumper stickers on my car or the signs in my yard. Does it mean I am a bad person?
Are We So Involved That...
Heaven and politics are an oxymoron – they do not go together. Until now.
Our purpose here is to get into the weeds of American Politics – and find our way forward to Heaven. It is not an easy task since we politiholics take things so seriously. In fact, we are addicted to the sense of power that goes with these serious and weighty issues, to the sense of entitlement, and to the sense of being right about what is good for everybody else.
Politicians at the BeginningLet us observe: Beginning politicians start with the goal of doing good and correcting evil policies. People who vote for them believe they can and will do the job they promised. However, the “giant sucking sound” comes when the politician realizes they will have to deal with re-election. Initial intentions usually change if not disappear. Sometimes what is “right” is not possible or practical.
The Dilemma Faced by all New PoliticiansIf it weren’t for all the other politicians tryi
